Mark
Alexander - BA, MBA, CHRP, is a human resources practitioner with over thirty
years of experience in the field of labour-management relations, personnel
management and organizational development. During his career he has worked
in the private sector (as a Vice President with John Labatt Limited
and Bell Canada and organization development manager with Air Canada); the
public sector (as a Vice President, Human Resources for Toronto East
General Hospital); the labour movement (as a regional representative
with the Canadian Labour Congress); academia (as a faculty member
at Saint Francis Xavier University, lecturer at the Atlantic Region Labour
Education Centre and instructor at the McGill Executive Institute and Dalhousie
Advanced Management Centre) and as a consultant in the field of labour
management relations and human resources management to a wide array of national
and international organizations. Since his graduation from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, Mark has committed his career to developing and implementing "best practice" approaches to the management of human resources and to improving labour relations. Mark's focus on creating and implementing innovative strategies for increasing organizational effectiveness through collaborative labour-management relations, employee-centred work practices, policies and programs has been of significant difference from most practitioners in the field. These initiatives combined with multi-sector experience have resulted in Mark developing a unique expertise in implementing change and a comprehensive understanding of the diverse aspects of human resource management, organization development and labour relations. Over the years, Mark has published numerous articles on labour relations and organization development including: Employee Performance and Discipline Problems: A New Approach, 2000, Queen's IRC Press, Kingston; Individual Employee Performance Management in Union Environments: The Emperor Goes to Abilene, 2003, Queen's IRC Press, Kingston; and Stop Pushing the Punishment Default Button: A Decision Tree for Separating Personal Problems, Mistakes and Errors from True Performance and Discipline Issues, Queen's IRC Press, 2006. He is regularly asked to make presentations on his work at national and international conferences. Currently, Mark serves as an advisor to MBA students at Royal Roads University, facilitates the CHRP exam preparation courses for the BC Human Resources Management Association and teaches at the McGill Executive Institute.
